one pot prawn pulao one pot meals are such dishes which can be cooked easily with minimal ingredients in a short time.  If  you are in a hurry, very tired and hungry but really no time to cook food like a traditional way then this types of one pot recipes are the saviour. My crave for one pot meals is never-ending and my love for cooking and experimenting with foods always gears me up to do  more. So last Saturday I decided to cook some thing tasty and healthy within a short time. I opened the refrigerator to search the left veggies and non veg items as weekend is the time for me to store up fresh vegetables and non-veg items. I found some carrots , beans and prawns and dished out this sea food pulao. In this Covid world keeping yourself healthy and fit is necessary and trust me this is one of those recipes full of nutrients. Carrots along with other benefits boosts immunity , beans are the source of vitamin A, C and K. Prawns are the source of Selenium that helps to main...

A VIVID MEMORY / BY AMRITA DAS Spitting of rain and roaring of wind always allure a nature lover. This feeling posits itself in a different level. It's like closing the eyes and perceiving the beauty. And a book lover who carries Romantic poets like Wordsworth , Coleridge in her heart , for her witnessing these beauty is nothing less than congregating happiness and flourishing heart. Being solitude never disappoints me rather it emanates another type of complacency. Same happened to me on 4th of  July though I was not lonely at that time , my circumstances allowed me to be. It was an auspicious day for Hindu culture  , the day of Rath Yatra and my husband was on leave. So in the evening time we decided to visit nearby Iscon temple. The road was almost blocked everywhere because of the crowd and the march of the worshippers. Still we managed to get short cuts and after an immense search of the exact location of the temple at last reached there after 30 minutes. But ...

THE MATERNITY SAGA: EPISODE 1

Image
Pregnancy blog by Amrita Das. Before you start to read this blog I wanna make you aware that this is my totally own experience. I have not influenced by other's thoughts. So here it is and hopefully you guys will like it. It  is said that maternity is a bliss and being a mother a woman gets all the pleasures of life that a man cant achieve. Grown up with this thought I came to know the verity behind it after my pregnancy actually. Though I have read and researched on many women issues where I have been mentioned that conjugal life is just a fantasy but luckily I got a good husband and my thought partly became false. Partly because I am still thwarted from few things because of my married life. But here my contention is not about married life , how it is going on and all that. But it is about my maternity experience. This blog is carrying only the narratives of few months of my 1st trimester which I have spent in a quite hectic way. The reason behind my grumble has been exper...

THE GUN ISLAND BY AMITAV GHOSH Life of an outlander always mesmerizes me and so the fictions of Amitav Ghosh , Jhumpa Lahiri always congregate my book shelf. Reading 'the Shadow lines' brought another type of impression than this recent one. Ghosh's 'Gun Island' is  the story of an immigrant , the narrator Dinanath , in short Deen who belong to Kolkata , India. But his ancestral address was Bangladesh where the major characters of the fiction are from.  Basically the story is about Climate change and its impact on Culture and the how the writer ,through the characters both human and creatures ,has developed the story I will explore here in this review as it advances. The story starts from Kolkata with the re-introduction of Manasa Devi and her incidence upon the Gun merchant and his elopement all over the world, to the narrator by her close acquaintances. From them Deen came to know about the shrine concreted in Sundarban probably by that merchant and his visi...

THE BUCCANEERS By Edith Wharton. I am always excited to read a book representing American upper class lifestyle. It feels like I am in an another world and this book helped me to quench that thirst. When I took the book I was very much eager to get to know about the Victorian society of America and it didn't let me down. It is a fantastic story of five upper class American girl and their ambitious married life. The Buccaneers starts of introducing the most evolving character of the novel and she is Annabel St. George and her highly ambitious sister Virginia and mother Mrs.St.George. The beginning of the story also introduces us the family of Mrs.Elmsworth and her trashy daughter Conchita whose life goal is only to get married. Mrs.St. George forbids her daughter to be with that another mentioned family because she believes it will harm their daughters' life to get hitched with a reputed family of England but Annabel aka Nan is determined to make friendship with Conchita a...

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you're all going to be spending time outdoors today and have already spent a wonderful weekend yesterday. As heat is at its highest in India hopefully rain of this week provided some relief. Though not everywhere it is raining but thankfully in Surat the weather is cool. I wanted  to approach the end of my week a little differently and give you a reading update from the week. This week I have decided to complete that book and start a new one. But my wish has been partially fulfilled as I have already completed the book of  The Indian Epics Retold R.K. Narayan I had been reading. I could not start the new one and don't think can start it today. I have a hectic schedule today moreover today there is India Pakistan match and I never miss it. As I promised you all to give review of that book I was reading so here it is. When I picked up the book I found it is a 'retold' of Ramayana and Mahabharata. When it was gifted to me by my hubby I th...

A short trip to Dummas beach.

Image
Before coming in Surat the only fascination I had had that it is a coastal area and has many beaches. The beaches of Arabian Sea is less fascinating to me than the sea itself because I am really a nature lover and being born and brought up in West Bengal I have already pleased my eyes by the beautiful sights of the Bay of Bengal and its beaches. Anyhow I got very much excited about the thought of viewing it. In January when I came in Surat from then onwards I was told by my neighbours and also by various youtubers that the most famous beach in and nearby Surat is Daman , Diu  and Dummas. Amongst these three we can enjoy in Daman and Diu but not in Dummas. Not only that last year in December when my husband visited Surat for the first time he found the beach dry and the most ridiculous thing for me that I was informed by everyone that it is a haunted beach and so better to avoid visiting it after sunset.                     ...
